Biography

Dr. Thomas J. Lotus received his Doctorate from National University of Health Sciences in 2003, specializing in rehabilitation and non-surgical orthopedics. He is a part-time faculty member at the Lincoln School of Post-Professional Education, where he teaches courses on classification, non-surgical orthopedics, rehabilitation, biomechanics, and pain management both nationally and internationally. Dr. Lotus is distinguished by his fellowship status as a board-certified chiropractic orthopedist (FACO) and is a candidate for diplomate status with the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board. He is globally recognized for his expertise in McKenzie Therapy (Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy, MDT), being among a small percentage of chiropractors worldwide fully credentialed in this method. His extensive training includes a rotation at Motol Hospital in the Czech Republic under Drs. Pavel Kolar and Karel Lewit, where he learned advanced techniques in dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS). He was also a keynote speaker at the 2013 McKenzie symposium for North America and has been integral in promoting the Chiropractic Branch of McKenzie International. During his 15 years of active private practice in downtown Chicago, Dr. Lotus served a varied patient base with a strong emphasis on sports injuries, pre- and post-surgical care, and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. He joined Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush as the first chiropractic physician, effectively coordinating care with physiatrists, surgeons, and physical therapists. Dr. Lotus has contributed to significant publications, co-authoring Chapter 11 on "Therapeutic Exercise" in the 2018 Orthopedic Knowledge Update (OKU) and a chapter on "The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT)" in the 3rd edition of Rehabilitation of the Spine by Craig Liebenson, DC.
