Joel Alcantara

Dr. Joel Alcantara was born in the Philippines and raised in Calgary, Alberta. His academic journey began with training in chemistry-biochemistry and cellular, molecular, and microbial biology at the University of Calgary. He then pursued his chiropractic education, graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in 1995. Upon graduation, he was appointed to a full-time faculty position in the Research Department at his alma mater. Currently, Dr. Alcantara holds significant roles as the Research Director for the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and the Chair of Pediatric Research at Life Chiropractic College West. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Southern Cross University in 2024. His research at Life West complements his activities with the ICPA, where he leads a dedicated team investigating the quality of life in children under chiropractic care and the biomechanics of the pediatric spine. Dr. Alcantara is recognized as a seasoned researcher in chiropractic care, with an extensive record of numerous publications and conference presentations. He has been instrumental in establishing and expanding the largest Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) in Chiropractic, which conducts projects across North America, Australia, and Europe. Additionally, he is an instructor for the ICPA Certification Program, teaching the seminar "Research: Evidence-Informed Practice."
