About This Event

This two-day course at Matador Rehab & Performance in San Antonio teaches Y-axis (axial) spinal decompression as a clinical decision process first and a technique second. The class is capped at six chiropractors so everyone gets plenty of supervised repetitions and one-on-one correction.

Day 1 opens with the four hours of live content the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners requires: board rules, the code of ethics, coding and documentation, and risk management. The afternoon introduces the Y-Axis Decompression Systems framework, including its history and evidence base, table set-up and stability, base-of-support and positioning principles, tool selection, and how traction-style application differs from HVLA.

Day 2 starts with cervical anatomy and biomechanics as they relate to safety. It then covers patient selection, indications, precautions, contraindications, and red flags, along with conservative dosing (force, duration, frequency, progression, and reassessment) and how to document technique choice, informed consent, and patient response. The last four hours are a supervised lab covering every technique, all done supine. The manual techniques are the hypothenar occiput lift, occiput pull, and occiput pull with mandibular stabilization. The towel-assisted techniques are the circumferential and occipital pulls. The Y-strap technique is the occipital Y-strap–assisted pull. The course ends with a practical skills evaluation and a certificate of completion.

The course is taught by Dr. Sam Peña of Y-Axis Decompression Systems. It runs Friday, December 4, 8:00 AM through Saturday, December 5, 5:00 PM Central, for 16 CE hours. The provider notes PACE and TBCE approval.
