Billing, Coding, and Boundaries for Active Care
About This Event
Active care is an integral component of the current paradigm in Chiropractic. This course will cover documentation and coding and patient management concerns (boundaries and ethics) as it relates to active care. The appropriate use of timed and untimed codes, modifiers and daily SOAP note documentation will be explained to substantiate the services rendered and bullet proof your records. Ethical and cultural concerns while providing active care will be addressed to protect both the patient and the clinician.
Learning Objectives:
Course Schedule: First Hour: Active care vs. passive care and the appropriate coding of both. Emphasis of when to use a timed vs. untimed code and the specifics of using the various passive and active codes. Documentation of active care including explanation of the Medicare 8 minute rule.
Second Hour: HIPAA and informed consent will be presented along with case reviews for coding. Ethical and practice management concerns while providing active care. Boundaries and cultural sensitivity issues for everyday practice.
Learning Objectives
- •Properly document and code active care utilizing both timed and untimed CPT codes, applying the Medicare 8-minute rule to ensure accurate reimbursement and compliance
- •Differentiate between active and passive care modalities and select appropriate codes for each, including correct modifier usage to substantiate services rendered
- •Develop compliant SOAP note documentation that supports medical necessity and withstands insurance audits and peer review
- •Apply HIPAA regulations and obtain informed consent specific to active care, myofascial release, and other hands-on therapeutic interventions
- •Identify and establish appropriate physical, emotional, and social media boundaries with patients to protect both the clinician and patient legally and ethically
- •Recognize cultural sensitivity considerations and adapt active care communication and treatment approaches to serve diverse patient populations respectfully
- •Evaluate ethical dilemmas and practice management scenarios common in active care delivery to mitigate liability and maintain professional standards
