About This Event

This two-hour course equips Doctors of Chiropractic with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to evaluate and manage sports-related concussion. Emphasizing a chiropractic approach within a multidisciplinary care model, the course covers key topics including return-to-play decision-making, concussion assessment tools, management of cervicogenic concussion, and care considerations for special populations such as adolescent and female athletes. Through case studies and practical instruction, participants will develop confidence in applying evidence-based strategies to support safe and effective concussion recovery.Participants will be able to analyze the patient history and physical examination findings to determine if a patient has had a concussion, perform the essential components of a standardized concussion assessment, and demonstrate effective evaluation and management strategies for head injuries in sports. The course also covers identifying clinical signs of increased intracranial pressure and dysautonomia, conducting targeted examinations, developing management plans for patients presenting with concussion, and managing concussion in special populations, including female, children and athletes. Attendees will synthesize findings from serial examinations to make accurate care decisions.

  • Perform standardized concussion assessment protocols and interpret findings from established assessment tools (e.g., SCAT5, ImPACT)
  • Evaluate and manage cervicogenic concussion within a multidisciplinary care model, recognizing the chiropractor's role in comprehensive concussion care
  • Identify clinical signs and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure and dysautonomia in concussed patients and determine appropriate referral protocols
  • Develop individualized concussion management plans incorporating return-to-play decision-making and progressive rehabilitation strategies
  • Apply specialized evaluation and management considerations for concussion in special populations, including adolescent athletes, female athletes, and pediatric patients
